Finance officer
Finance officers keep the organization's day-to-day finances accurate and under control. They process and record invoices, payments, income, and journals, reconcile ledgers and bank accounts, and help budget holders and suppliers with their queries. In a digital health care organization much of this work involves technology suppliers, software licenses, and cloud services, often paid from public funding with strict rules on how it is spent.

In a digital health care organization
- The organization spends public money, so every payment must be properly approved, recorded, and able to stand up to audit.
- Many invoices are for software licenses, cloud hosting, and support contracts, which need checking against contract terms, usage, and the right capital or revenue code.
- Prompt and accurate payment matters, because small suppliers and care providers may depend on it.
- Finance staff see personal information, such as staff expenses and payments to patients or care providers, and must handle it under information governance rules.
- Fraud risks, such as false requests to change supplier bank details, target public bodies, so officers follow strict checks.
